Marilyn Heath is an “S” Judge, clinician, instructor, and trainer. Horses have been in her blood from an early age. She began riding when she was nine years old, and after years of riding school horses, her family rewarded her dedication with her own horse. All through high school she rode hunt seat equitation and Junior Hunters, and showed at shows throughout New Jersey and rode Medal/MaClay at Madison Square Garden.
Her teaching career began as a junior instructor, advanced to teaching pony club (coaching the winning rally teams for six consecutive years,) and specializing in dressage starting in the 1970s. At the same time she was an avid fox hunter. She trained young horses throughout the years her children were growing up, turning them over to the girls if suitable or selling them to support the habit if not. During those years she showed all levels of dressage, all on self-trained horses. Her most notable success was Tudor Star, a thoroughbred, who she trained to the Grand Prix level, earning her Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals along the way. She and Tudor were long listed by the USET in 1986, 1987, and 1988, and competed at the World Championships in Cedar Valley, Ontario in 1986. They subsequently won the Bengt Lundquist trophy at Intermediare ! and Grand Prix Levels, and the USDF Vintage Cup awards at Intermediare !! and Grand Prix.
Marilyn has authored many articles on dressage training and was Chairman of the USDF “L” Judge Education program for 9 years. She remains on the faculty of the “L” Program and is involved in the education of USEF and USEA licensed judges. In 2013 she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the USDF in recognition of her dedication to judge education. She works with horses and riders of all levels with an emphasis on correct basics and harmony between horse and rider.
